I have a 1999 Yamaha waverunner XL1200. It has 84 hrs and was kept in an air conditioned garage. I just discovered that Yamaha has known about this problem as well as all the Dealers in Houston.
The problem is that the Lube line slips out of the carbuerator once the lube line shrinks from age. Then while you think you have plenty of oil and the gages verify this, your one cylinder is running with out oil and it self destructs. I am shocked that Yamaha and its dealers are not informing its customers about this well know problem. The repair of the oil lines would be cheap, repair of a blown engine is $4,000.

If anyone else has had this happen to them, a class action suit may get thier attention. This is a hidden factory defect they should have let their customers know about so you could bring in before you blow your engine. LovingLife, welcome to the forum. I hope you will like it here

I don't own a yamaha waverunner, but I hope you will get reactions to this because if this is a known defect you are totally right that they should inform their customers of it.

I have a 2000 SUV1200 w/ <75hrs, garage kept that needs a top end rebuild due to oil lines shrinking and coming unattached. Tech told me the same thing; happens all the time... I will be calling Yamaha to see what their position is...

Just talked with Brenda at Yamaha corporate. Said out of warranty and they will do nothing and no one else to talk with. Said it is my "opinion" that yamaha has a problem... Said couldn't comment on why no service advisory or recall...

Thanks for your reply. All the Five Star Yamaha dealers told me that Yamaha is aware of this problem with the oil lines shrinking and causing the engine to fail instantly. Lets stay in touch. I am having mine fixed now with a new engine and I will mix oil and gas from now on. I still plan to fight Yamaha on this.
