Indoor Gym climbing - is the most accessible way to get into the sport for urban residents and also the only way to practice and keep in shape for climbing real rocks. The climbers practice on simulated walls with bolts.
Bouldering: A practice of minimal climbs conducted on rock boulders. This sport is demanding and will keep you in shape to climb any rocks, it also required minimum equipment, so it is a great way to start out.
Top roping: A method of climbing in which the climber is protected by a rope that is let down from an anchor system from above.
Sport climbing: Is a style that emphasizes the lead movements of rock climbing. The object is to master movement techniques, to become a better leader for a climb. This is practiced on rock faces protected by bolts.
Traditional climbing: This means climbing real rocks. Those are usually climbed in cracks where there are more places to grip and place protection and pitches on the face of the rock. You will need a few years practice to be self sufficient and safe before going on a traditional climb.
Mountain climbing is referred to longer climbs targeted at reaching the peaks of mountains. To do this one must master rock climbing (traditional), ice climbing and perhaps also other categories such as backpacking, skiing and snow camping.
Ice climbing: A great winter activity with entails climbing frozen waterfalls. Climbing icebergs is also a form of ice climbing.
Mix climbing: a mixture of rock and ice climbing. This is a more extreme version of the sport.
To be able to survive a few days long climb on a mountain one must learn to properly back pack, walk long tracks, and camp in snow. To get down can sometimes involve skiing.
