You might want to watch the movie Unsalted or hear what the surfers Watto and Sli have to say about their experience, Mpdoane2. They gave lots of interviews telling about it.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help since I have not surfed Lake Michigan

He... that's a pity KevinB. It would have been nice to have 'more details' here for everyone to see

aigght. Here it is... There are two good sights www.thirdcoastsurfshop.com and www.surfdalake.com (for Lake Michigan) both have forums that go off when the wind picks up and the surf is good. Their is also a Great Lakes Wave Index at http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/ It's not the easiest to read and it's 6 hours ahead of central time but you can get the picture. The surf is very fickle and you kind of have to be ready to go whenever - I usually keep my board in my car. All it takes is meeting a couple people - everyone is happy to share the spots and times to go... good luck

Thank you very much, KevinB

Those are great sites as well. More so for realtime being able to get up on the spot and be on the go. (as you wrote above)

Hey Kevin B. Hope your session up in Wisconsin was good this weekend. I still haven't gotten out on the lake yet. I've just been working and had too much going on. I'm looking at taking a trip up to the New Buffalo area and check out how the surf is up there. I have to stick near the Third Coast Surf Shop because I don't have any gear at all. I just started surfing out in Oregon and i need to figure out the board types that i'm interested in. If you have anymore information to share with me that would be great. Thanks man.

We had a fun session that Saturday, surfed from 5:00am to 2:00pm. In winthrop harbor, IL Kenosha, WI and Racine, WI.

The only issue that you may run into is that you can't just pick a weekend and head up there. You have to make sure it's going to be good with strong winds. New Buffalo works best on a strong North/Northwest/West winds. check weather.com for wind speed and keep you eye on thirdcoast's forum and you should know when everyone else is going. If you plan on renting equip from thirdcoast you can call ahead - Ryan is the owner and will be happy to tell you if it is going to be worth coming up and where to go.

Summer is the dead season - probably only a handful of surfable days. Fall into winter is the best. One guy I met up here got in 10 different sessions in January of last year. Nuts, but that's what you gotta do. Let me know if I can help further.

Woops, this got me jealous that I'm living so far away and can't participate in what sounds to me like a whole lot of true fun
