Whereas other winter sports have arisen because people had used it as a means of
transportation through the snow, snowboarding was invented for recreational purposes and became a pleasant sport for young and old. Only a few years ago snowboarding was a new winter sport, only a few people practiced it and there were few areas where it was allowed.

But now it is experiencing a popularity boom, and is rapidly becoming an all family sport and the sport has its own competitions and events.
According to research of the worldwide Sporting Goods Association, for the last few years snowboarding accounted for 23% of the total number of visitors to winter sport resorts. Growing popularity
Over time more and more people accepted the sport, more facilities arose and more people started considering snowboarding safe and pleasurable. Nowadays not only young people snowboard, but they still account for the biggest group. They are the ones that try out the airs (jumps). Of course it takes a while before a beginner can do airs or zigzag through the powder snow, but you will find the improvement of your skills, even at the start gives you a tremendous kick.

Most of the ski schools developed snowboarding courses when the sport suddenly became popular. Thanks to those ski schools there are plenty of possibilities to snowboard in almost any ski area. Snowboard riders have developed a world of their own, with language and fashion to go along with the sport. If at first the snowboard riders were considered as rebelling riffraff among the elitist ski fans, it has now become cool to ride rather than to ski and the resorts are changing their attitude and offerings accordingly.

And it is healthy
Snowboarding is not only a fun sport; it is also good for you. Snowboarding makes you move the lower body. Because of the movements that you make when you practice abdomen and back side turns - your quadriceps, hamstrings, buttock, hip and calf muscles will be thoroughly trained. Most people find it a lot more fun than other training programs.
