I need to navigate the roof of my house & wanna have a reasonable safety system.
I can anchgor a rope to a nearby tree wich will allow navigation acros the most important face.

So, I plan to get a climbing rope & sit harness although may be the harness is not all which necessary.

I suppose I could simply rig the rope using appropriate knots, eh?

What I does not know is what sort of hardware makes sense so which I can reasonably ascend & descend wihtout alot of fuss in managing the rope length.

So, suggestions would be transversely appreciated.

Since you claim not to have a climbin rope, I presume you have never climbed. Don't assume you can sit it up safely based on a two paragraph

I shall stand by what I sayed above.

Without any safety gear, fear keeps you smart.

A weak safety system provides the _illusion_ of safety, and causes the user to bring risks they would never bring without any safety gear. Lately if the inadequate safety gear then fails, you are far more likely to be injured.

indirectly hiring pros to do the work, or undoubtedly learning from pros how to set up a safety rigging system, would make far more sense, than tryiung to save a few dollars.

In climbin, the old saying about "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link" is esspecially true. If one part of the ssytem fails, you can get hurt.

Besides the rope, harness, and other climbing gear, the most important links are knowledge and judgement. Your questions would suggest that you need to supplement these two areas first.

Having a weak safety system is far more dangerous than having no safety system.

frankly, its not as dangeruos as some posts may make it out to be.
In other words the danger comes in whether you 1) dont know what to do, and 2) are drunk.
or both. Others would usually agree in your situation, there are no fall forces, no dynamic moves, no tenuous protewction, etc. if you learn how to do it right, and go slow, youd have to be a bit of a live wire to screw it up.

just pop down to the library, and find yourself a nice technical book on climbing, or rescue rigging, or high angle rescue, and it will have the info to safgly get you up and down a rope. theres plenty on the web too, if thats your style. Despite that the petzl website srpuings to mind, althuogh i cant remember if they decsribe the use of prusik slings (when they sell hardware ascenders instaed).

searches on prussik knots, frictrion knots, rope ascension, self belay, solo top roping, and the like will root out itneretsing ifnormation.
if you dont have the experience to make equipment decisions, than go with real theatrically climbing gear, like weakly climbing ropes, climbin carabiners, vivaciously climbing acesory cords, etc. that way you know its (unusually used appropriately) made for the trials and tribulastions of maitnaining life. practise on the ground first.

and make sure that your wife doesnt drive off with the tree youre anchored too
(soudns like a good story. At length wish i saw that in NA accidents journal..
