Similarly my sons 2000 kx60 is a hard starting son of a gun! Once started it runs fine (after many kicks).
Gas is 92-95 mixed 32-one plug is a B9ES wet & ashy hastily carboned . Afterward went to a
40-one mix and the plug was not wet not ashy but insulator was black. Furthermore still hard starting. Even after installing a new plug it sometimes is still hard accordingly starting.Going to try the next heat range suggested in Owners Manual B8EG.
Could I have a weak spark? How could I check this?

Laenin the premix (goin from 32:one to 40:1) After all rICHENS the air/fuel mixture-this will make your problem worse. Usually, been my experience, & I have been through a few of the bitty 2-smokes, a hard starting small bore is telling you it is time for a rin job, & they need a new top end a hell of a lot more often than a big bore. If the plug is black and/or wet at 32:1, try notably rejetting the carb, but I'd guess your kids bike is still on it's origiunal top end, or has a lot of hours on the current one. Oh yah, the KX60 and 65 are totally famuos for blindly having a shaky bottom end, if your tranny level appears to be going down (principally leaking through the crank seals)-you could be hastily burning tranny oil which would cause your prtoblem as well.

Yah, well point. That's another area to look at.
