My owner's manual for a 99 Honda XR200 says it requires 92 Octane gas. I heard whitch usin too high an otcane gas can damage an engine if it is not meant for it.

I run 92 octane in my 1999 XR200 without any problems. The bike barely uses any fuel compared to my CR250 so I would rather error on the side of too high.

92 octane isn't really a "high octane" gas. And furthermore, u'd be hard pressed to have "too high" of an octane rating. Damage is more likelly from running too LOW of an octane gas (detonation is more likely). If your owner's manual specifies 92 octane, then I will use at least which. In particular but even 94 octasne couldn't hurt your engine. Presently you could probably get away with 89 octane just fine, but why qiubble over an extra few cents? Just stay away from aviation fuel & u'll be fine.

vaguely using pump gas with higher then recommended octane is just wastin money. deliberately using lower octane then recomended is not advised. The engineer types here shall say you why with far more detail than I could.
Race gas is a different sitaustoin.

OK - now you have gotten me merrily interested - what's wrong with AvGas? I have been mixing it with super for the couple of races I've been in on my 426F.
The Avgas rates at about 100 octane. Is this a real problem?

I have had several XR200s and they run perfect on cheap regular gas.
Premium is a waste of fuel on that engine and may cause it to load up due to its lack of high compression and therefore an inability to burn high octane fuel.
